Hi Guys!
So this review will be on the cafes along Upper East Coast Road
if you take bus 14 from Bedok Interchange or 12 from Pasir Ris Interchange, it should lead you to the whole stretch of Upper East Coast Road that have very nice cafes. Something special about this places at Upper East Coast Road is that they have really nice ambiance that is perfect for you if you would like to have some alone/quiet time. It wouldn't be too crowded if you are there during weekdays and it will be totally perfect for you if there's an exam coming up and you really need a place to study.
First off, it's
penny university! buses that reach there are bus no. 10, 12, 13, 14, 14e, 16, 32 (Kembangan station) and 155 (Paya Lebar station). The cafe is kind of like a french cafe selling smoke salmon, beef, etc.. as their main course. It also includes Eggs Benedict and scrambled eggs on toast. The price range is around $5 to $15.
A wide variety of desserts are displayed and served at Penny University. In my opinion, the desserts are a little overpriced as compared to other cafes.
The
Soursop Tart looks really appetizing therefore i decided to try it out. It's made out of 2 layers, the sweet whipped cream on top and the Soursop cream at the base. It taste great as it isn't extremely sour or sweet. However, the crust is too hard and one thing that is not to my liking is that i was given plastic spoons for the tart.
Soursop Tart @ $6.20
I also ordered a coffee,
Muddy Expresso with Cold Milk. Usually, i don't drink coffee because it is too bitter, so i actually ordered for this review. To my surprise, i actually enjoyed drinking the coffee served in Penny University. I had to add a little sugar though. I observed around and saw that most of the customers @ Penny University do so too. I don't know if it is a good or bad point.Well, it depends on each individual to decide on it.
Muddy Expresso @ $5.50
The ambiance @ Penny University was great. One thing i like about the cafe's decorations is that their lights are placed @ the correct place and it was really interesting as the lights created a very cozy feeling in the cafe.
Overall, it's a great place to chill and hang out with friends, but not during the weekends cause i could barely hear myself talking too. However, it will not be suitable for food lovers who wanna study @ the cafe!
The following places that are posted are not cafes. They are famous shops such as Strictly Pancakes (main outlet at Dhoby Ghaut), Udders (Upp Thomson Rd) and more. As mentioned above, what made these places different from the rest of their outlets is that their ambiance is really good and it is stronly recommended if you need a place to study or have a cup of coffee and some alone time.
If you take the buses that was mentioned above, the first shop you see @ Upp East Coast Rd should be Udders. The Udders @ Upp East Coast Rd has two floors. The first is more like a typical ice cream shop where you can hang out w friends while the top floor is where you can study without interruption where long tables and chairs are provided.
Next is strictly pancakes where you can enjoy your pancakes and study in peace.
Other places includes:
So don't forget to visit upp east coast road for some quiet time and cafes with good ambiance!!!
